Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja sang the national anthem at the L.A. Galaxy and Seattle Sounders game on Sunday (Sept. 23), and the 7-year-old undeniably won the match after she stunned the audience with her mighty voice.
Last week, the Galaxy announced on social media that Malea Emma had won its first #GalaxySocial national anthem contest and would be singing on the following Sunday game. Shocking fans and players, the 7-year-old delivered a delightful performance with her powerful, deep-pitched rendition.
Tjandrawidjaja has been singing since she was one and practiced non-stop before performing live to the Sunday crowd. “I was thinking that I cannot do anything wrong because it’s a really special song to America,” she told ABC News.
Tjandrawidjaja also has a ritual of singing to a lamp before bed. “I practice every night with my dad,” she said.
In the video posted by ABC, players on the field can be seen smiling as they first hear and realize the extent of Malea’s skills, before the crowd absolutely loses their minds as she soars higher with the anthem.
