Lady Gaga has simply overtaken the Billboard charts this week.
First, her “Born This Way” was crowned the 1,000th No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with splashy debuts on the Radio Songs and Digital Songs chart. Then her grand Grammy entrance out of an egg makes the rounds on YouTube. And now she rises to the top of the Social 50 chart for the first time, with big increases in both Twitter followers and official YouTube channel views.
She skips 3-1 on the tally with hearty increases in new Facebook fans (up 14% week-over-week), Twitter followers (52%) and both subscribers (117%) and views (231%) to her official YouTube channel. No doubt, the arrival of “Born This Way” to her YouTube home on Friday, Feb. 11 caused the huge spike.
The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites — YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike — using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
Meanwhile, Wiz Khalifa basks in his mighty 35-14 jump — his first time in the top 20. He’s up 59% in new Facebook fans and 17% in YouTube channel views. A few steps above Khalifa, at No. 10, is Selena Gomez, who jumps three spots to earn her first top 10-placing. She earned a solid 43% increase in views to her YouTube channel last week as her Nicki Minaj tribute continues to earn buzz.
As for the rest of the top 10, Rihanna slips out of the top slot to No. 2 while Justin Bieber jumps two spots to No. 3. Shakira holds at No. 4, Eminem is up one to No. 5, Akon falls four to No. 6 and Katy Perry steps 8-7. Michael Jackson rises one to No. 8, as does Linkin Park at No. 9. Four re-entering acts hit the chart: Nickelback (No. 38), T.I. (No. 44), Adele (No. 46) and Daft Punk (No. 49). The tally greets one debut down at No. 45 from Maroon 5.
