If you have never heard what France is doing with hip-hop, you should really get onboard. French MCs have a seriously cool way with words, and they know how to pick killer beats. MHD is one rapper you should have on your radar. He’s the kingpin of this subgenre he calls Afro Trap, a style of music that blends African sounds with Southern hip-hop style for a party sound unlike any other. It’s pretty well-defined in a series of his songs that so far climb to at least 9 parts, and part 7 just got a cool tropical remix from Major Lazer.
“Afro Trap Part 7” goes under the subtitle “La Puissance,” which translates into English as “The Power.” It’s a classic rap track in the sense that it’s all about how great MHD is. The beat is really kickin’ with African drums and a dance floor rhythm. Major Lazer didn’t do too much to mess with that magic, but the trio did amplify the energy with some bright and funky horn-like synths on the hook. It’s the Major Lazer signature style, for sure. You’ll know it when you hear it. There’s also a bit of an island breakdown you’re gonna enjoy.
Diplo makes an appearance in the official music video for the remix, which includes a lot of shots that, once again, let you know just how beloved and awesome MHD actually is.
