After a video surfaced last weekend of actress Maia Campbell at a gas station demanding crack and alluding to being raped by a man who said he was Bill Cosby, her former In The House co-star, LL Cool J took to Twitter to find a way to contact her to get her help.
Upon seeing the rather alarming video, LL tweeted “Instead of pulling out your phone and filming someone who’s obviously having trouble. Maybe lend a helping hand? A kind word?” Campbell has had a tumultuous struggle with substance abuse as well as being vocal about her experiences with bipolar disorder.
In a video posted July 10, a scattered Campbell responds to his gesture by saying, “I don’t need help, I just need a benefit concert for mental health.” She goes on to list ways he can get in touch with her, but insists that she’d prefer to avoid confrontation: “I don’t want it to go down.”
LL quickly responded to the video with a tweet that read, “You can’t help someone who doesn’t want your help.”
The day after the video and tweet were posted, Life coach @rosiedessie123 took to Instagram in an effort to locate Campbell and was reportedly successful. Nothing is confirmed yet, but Rosie later posted a video announcing that Maia is being held by Dekalb County for psych evaluation while her family and loved ones can come up with an intervention plan.
