Madonna has taken to Instagram to refute claims that she was drunk during her Rebel Heart Tour performance in Louisville on Saturday (Jan. 16).
Over the weekend TMZ reported that “some fans were irate that the show started late…VERY late according to some — 3 hours late” and quoted concert-goers who swore the performer was “drunk” and “trash talked Kentuckians.”
To defend her honor — and redirect attention to what she feels is a “totally sexist” response to her joking during the show about drinking — Madonna posted a picture of herself from that night with a long caption explaining how she couldn’t physically perform for over two hours unless she was sober.
Not one to stay on the defensive for long, Madonna pivoted attention during her Nashville show on Monday to call out Jack White, who was sitting in the audience, for looking too “laid back” while she was performing. “Don’t be laid back, just cause you’re famous. I’m famous too, you know,” NME quotes her saying to the White Stripes frontman. “Maybe you don’t like me?” she asked, after which he graciously smiled and blew a kiss to the stage. A fan captured the exchange in the video below.
