U2 was already in Brazil for four shows at Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo, while Madonna, Ashton Kutcher and Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis traveled from the United States for the ceremony, which was Christian and Jewish.
Caetano Veloso, who performed a concert as part of the celebrations, was introduced by Madonna, who asked the audience not to talk or drink.
“Can I hug you? I love you,” Madonna said as she watched Caetano enter the stage. Then, the Queen of Pop knelt to greet him.
In early 2017, in an election held by Billboard Brazil, Caetano Veloso was chosen by a jury of journalists and music business professionals as the most complete Brazilian artist of all time.
