Orlando’s beloved DJ and producer and Mad Decent artist Samisoni Koroitamudu, aka Big Makk, has been killed in a car crash in Casselberry, Florida. He was 25.
According to a report from Orlando Weekly, Koroitamudu and three others traveling in a Dodge Charger crashed into a tree at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29. Big Makk is credited by the local paper as an “early innovator of the moombahton EDM sub-genre.”
“He had three dreams for his music career,” says manager Matt Denuzzo in an emailed statement, “Collaborating with Mr. Carmack, Bassnectar, & Kanye West. He did a track with Carmack and worked on Bassnectar’s last album, so I can tell you he was really happy with his career so far. Just missing Kanye West.”
Crowds in Orlando loved to see Koroitamudu shine at his weekly event Shake’N Bass. His recent Twitter and Facebook posts celebrated his first official booking to play EDC Orlando in November. Friends have taken to social media to share words of condolence and disbelief. Makk was a big part of the movement in Orlando when all of us local DJs we’re trying to make it. He was always innovating with his music
