Macklemore and Ryan Lewis had a big night at the 64th GRAMMY Awards, but the collaborators from their three biggest singles were on hand too, and Billboard caught up with them on the red carpet.
The hot topic was the looming performance of “Same Love,” featuring a guest appearance from Madonna and a Queen Latifah-assisted marriage of 33 gay and straight couples onstage. Watch Mary Lambert’s interview with Billboard:

“I’ve literally been crying nonstop,” says Mary Lambert, the voice behind the hook on the studio cut of “Same Love.” “It’s a really emotional experience to be a part of this… The fact that the song means so much to so many people, and to be at the epicenter of that. And to hear the hook that I wrote in two hours in a little vocal booth… I can’t even.”
In reminiscing on the top-20 success of “Same Love,” Lambert could clearly sense the historic importance of her song.
The elder statesman of “The Heist” collaborators, “Thrift Shop” vocalist Wanz looked back on his lifelong experiences to put the event into context.

“For me, a black man, who has lived and seen a few things, it is encouraging for me to see the country grow on a social level. I’ve said it for a long time, even before it became popular: ‘Love doesn’t know any color, it doesn’t know anything. Love is universal and there shouldn’t be any parameters.'”
The 52-year old baritone offered the words of wisdom, “Men make laws, but god made love.”
Ray Dalton, who gained fame as the voice behind the hook of the No. 1 hit “Can’t Hold Us,” mentioned that his album is coming this spring and that the single would be released soon. Wanz, too said his project is coming along (though he joked he’s been working on it since 1973) and Lambert hinted her “stunning” debut album would be out in spring or summer.
