In a newly released clip from Rick Rubin‘s four-part Showtime docuseries Shangri-La, the producer shares a moment with Mac Miller as the two discuss 2018’s Swimming.
The late rapper, who passed away last year at the age of 26, talks to Rubin about the personal nature of his material, saying, “It’s been an interesting journey for me to realize that the goal here is to be as much me as possible. That’s it, that’s the only goal. And how we get that out of me and into whatever we’re making.”
“It’s so scary, dude,” he admits, laughing.
“If you think about it, your favorite records do that,” Rubin responds. “Like the ones that you like that other people make, that’s the shit.”
