Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o responded to rumors that she and Rihanna will co-star in a Twitter-inspired movie together.
“You know what’s really cool, is that people spoke up about the kind of movie they wanna see,” Nyong’o told ET on Saturday (July 22) at San Diego Comic-Con, where she was promoting her upcoming movie, Black Panther.
“And this is a great example: Black Panther is being embraced because people are really hungry for this kind of film,” she added. “And that movie with me and Rihanna and Issa [Rae] and Ava [DuVernay] is another one of those examples where people want to see something like themselves, and something different something they’re not being offered yet, and I’m honored to be a part of that conversation.”
Nyong’o referred to writer Issa Rae and director Ava DuVernay, who also have been named for the rumored project.
The idea for a movie starring the pair began in April when fans on Twitter shared a 2014 photo of Rihanna and Nyong’o at Paris Fashion Week, suggesting they looked like a Hollywood action movie in the making. “They look like they’re in a heist movie, with Rihanna as the tough-as-nails leader-master thief and Lupita as the genius computer hacker,” one fan tweeted.
After the post went viral, the actress and the singer chimed in on the conversation, saying they were game.
In May, Rae’s team confirmed to Vanity Fair that the project was in the works, and Entertainment Weekly reported that Netflix nabbed the rights.?
