Lyle Lovett will release “My Baby Don’t Tolerate,” Sept. 30 as his first album for Lost Highway Records. The singer/songwriter co-produced the set with frequent collaborator Billy Williams and recorded at O’Henry Sound Studios in Burbank, Calif. The title track will serve as the album’s first radio single.
Lovett has not released a studio album of all new material since 1996’s “Road to Ensenada.” At Austin, Texas’ South By Southwest music festival in March, Lovett explained, “I wanted to wait until I had a group of songs that I wanted to record… I’m never happy with the songs that I had to push myself to do.”
Up to this point, Lovett had spent his entire recording career with MCA/Curb, to which he signed in 1986. He released eight albums through the label, including the soundtrack to Robert Altman’s 2000 film “Dr. T & the Women.” He has also appeared in the Altman films “Cookie’s Fortune,” “Pret a Porter” and “Short Cuts,” as well as in other features.
Earlier this year, Curb/MCA released “Smile: Songs From the Movies,” a compilation of covers Lovett recorded over the years for use on soundtracks. The set debuted at No. 16 on Billboard’s Top Internet Album Sales chart and No. 106 on The Billboard 200.
Lovett has a handful of appearances left on his summer tour. He’s also booked to play New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in November.
