With lilting chimes, sparkling bells, and whirring synths, K-pop girl group Lovelyz has returned with their latest single “Twinkle,” to ring in the holiday season.
Released on Tuesday (Nov. 14) as the lead song on their autumnally tinged Fall In Lovelyz EP, the song is a saccharine complextro track. It’s the act’s third single of the year, a follow up to “WoW” and “Now, We.”
The synth-happy song veers Lovelyz more along the lines of the stilted beats that J-pop acts like Perfume typically put forth more so than what K-pop usually sees. Layering ”Twinkle” digital quirks and Christmastime bells upon one another, the act offers up a bright tune that blends the singers’ vivacious vocals with seasonal tones.
Decked out in wine red sweater dresses and chandelier earrings, the members of Lovelyz get into the holiday mood by knitting, playing with snow globes and fake snow, and donning seasonal trappings. During the chorus, they switch things up from the more domestic scenes and perform the song’s playful choreography in preppy, lace-embellished dresses and two-piece ensembles, before switching into sparkling holiday-ready party outfits.
Along with “Twinkle,” Fall In Lovelyz features seven other songs that showcase the girl group’s blend of innocent bubblegum pop styling with creative electronica elements.
The only female act signed to Woollim Entertainment, home to INFINITE and Golden Child, Lovelyz was formed in 2014 and consists of eight members and have released nine singles to date.
