Bubbly in their synth-pop sweetness, K-pop group Lovelyz dropped their new single “That Day” on Monday (April 24).
The lead track of their fourth EP Heal, “That Day” is a saccharine pop confection with twinkling synths and sweet, airy vocals. Switching off between the energetic chorus and the gentler verses, “That Day” the single starts softly with a delicate lounge beat before picking up and moving into a sweeping melody that leads into a lush chorus built upon layered vocals and retro-inspired digital beats.
“That Day,” produced by Sweetune, is the act’s first release of the year, and shows a sense of maturing from Lovelyz; in the fourth year of their career, it’s their first single to address a break-up. But, typical of the act’s youthful nature, it’s addressed in a refreshing and upbeat way.
The girl group’s carnival-inspired music video has the eight members basking in pastels and rainbows. Vivacious and spirited, they don feminine, blouses, skirts, and blazers as they bond with one another throughout the fairground and sing about turning bad memories of the end of a relationship into good ones.
Heal is Lovelyz’s fourth EP and follows last year’s Fall in Lovelyz. Aside from the single, the album features fourth other tracks: the energetic “Mi-myo Mi-myo,” the ambient “Temptation,” the pop ballad “Watercolor,” and the fizzy electro-pop closer “Shining Star.”
