With the release of their debut LP Jurassic Technologie last year, Los Angeles duo Pr0files built a foundation as purveyors of gritty, sad synth pop, which earned them heaps of buzz and over 3 million streams across platforms.
Returning last month with their latest single “Money,” the striking act — comprised of vocalist Lauren Pardini and producer Danny Sternbaum — tapped into their journey as a true indie act and the (financial) challenges that come with it.
Today, Pr0files share the surreal visual for the clip, premiering exclusively via Billboard.
Meant to serve as a rallying cry for anyone who has struggled with the fear or failure of disappointment, the clip serves as a reminder to fans to not let fear control or determine their future. The visual is directed by Mel Cowan, a writer on E!’s The Arrangement who also appeared on Parks & Recreation and Reno 911. Featuring an array of retro instruments — including a 72 Dodge Charger and Echo Microphone — the video finds the group navigating a bizarre world where pinatas ride in the backseat, turntables double as cakes, and keyboards shoot blood and glitter.
“It’s strange, shiny, gory, and hopefully a little funny,” Cowan tells Billboard of the clip’s inspiration. “Especially the shot of Danny and Lauren hitting pinatas modeled after themselves.”
