Lorde has come to the defense of comedian and actress Leslie Jones, after the Saturday Night Live star shared some of the racist and sexist tweets that she has received over the past few weeks.
The “Royals” singer tweeted about meeting Jones during her performance on SNL.
.@Lesdoggg was so cool to us when we played SNL. lady is badass, beautiful & a MOVIE STAR, and you trolls live rent free at your mum’s house

Twitter trolls have been targeting Jones, since her profile has grown from starring in SNL and the new Ghostbusters reboot. Many of the tweets used racist slurs and imagery.
The onslaught came to a tipping point, however, when one account posted a fake screen grab of a tweet from Jones’ account peppered with homophobic slurs about killing gays. After exposing the fake tweet, she tweeted about the experience:
I feel like I’m in a personal hell. I didn’t do anything to deserve this. It’s just too much. It shouldn’t be like this. So hurt right now.

The series of tweets Jones sent out about the debacle has inspired her Twitter followers and fans to create the new hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ, which has been gaining traction on social media.
