Forget the trophies doled out at the fifth edition of the Univision Network’s “Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards). Rather, the popular awards show, which aired live from Miami’s BankUnited Center on July 17, was all about music performances, at least 14, featuring a wide array of acts, many of them far from young.
But the spirit of show came through in its fast pace and interesting combos, including Akwid and Tucanes de Tijuana and Enrique Iglesias and Aventura, singing together as a preview of their upcoming joint tour. Winners for Premios Juventud are decided by fans who vote at univision.com, and awards went to the likes of Aventura (for “I Hear Them Everywhere”), Jennifer Lopez (“She’s Got Style”) and Wisin y Yandel, who won four awards including “best ringtone.”
Newcomers to Premios Juventud included pop group Belanova and romantic reggaetón singer Flex.
