Longstanding West Coast punk label Lookout! Records is planning a July 25-27 celebration to mark its 15th anniversary with a trifecta of concerts and a commemorative re-release. The label, which formed in 1988, has released albums by the likes of Screeching Weasel, Operation Ivy, Green Day, the Donnas, MTX, Pansy Division and Ted Leo/Pharmacists.
The weekend celebration will kick off with a July 25 performance by Dr. Frank, frontman/songwriter of the Mr. T Experience, at San Francisco’s Parkside Lounge. Larger shows will take place at the Great American Music Hall, with the full Mr. T Experience joining the Queers, the Smugglers and the Enemies at the July 26 concert and Ted Leo/Pharmacists hooking up with the Pattern, the Oranges Band and Communique on the following night.
Also in conjunction with the anniversary, the label recently issued “Lookout! Records: Punk Seven Inch CD Volume 1: 1988-1989,” a compilation bringing together six of the first seven EPs released by the label. The single-disc collection comprises a whopping 47 tracks, blazed through in a mere 65 minutes. The artists featured are Corrupted Morals, Plaid Retina, Isocracy, Yeastie Girlz, Surrogate Brains, Kamala and the Karnivores. The recordings mark the only official releases from Yeastie Girlz, Kamala, Surrogate Brains and Isocracy, the latter of which featured future members of Green Day and Samiam.
The label is working on compiling a second volume of punk 7″ singles. For more information and updates on the anniversary celebration, visit Lookout!’s official Web site.
