AEG Group says this week will see the 10 millionth visitor to its O2 entertainment site in London since it opened in June 2007.
The figure counts visitors to all areas of the O2 site, which includes the main O2 Arena, the smaller Indigo2 venue plus a cinema, bars, and restaurants.
“The O2 aims to be one of the world’s most dynamic venues, bringing in the very best music, sport and entertainment,” said David Campbell, AEG Europe chief executive in a stement. “Ten million visitors through our doors is testament to both the top class content within the building, and that AEG have created a destination enjoyed by all who visit it.”
Since its launch, the O2 Arena has hosted almost 500 musical acts, including The Rolling Stones, Girls Aloud, Spice Girls, Linkin Park and Stevie Wonder, who concluded the last of four nights at the venue on Oct. 1. Forthcoming dates include shows Queen & Paul Rodgers, Elton John, Coldplay and Tina Turner. The O2 is also to stage its first classical show in the arena with a performance of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” in January 2009.
