The seventh edition of London’s City Showcase has confirmed its bill of emerging acts, performing at a range of stores in the capital next month, alongside its timetable of industry workshops at the Regent Street Apple Store.
City Showcase has previously featured Keane, Razorlight, Amy Winehouse, Newton Faulkner, Hot Chip, Scouting for Girls, Sway, Seth Lakeman, Lady Sovereign and Ray LaMontagne, who all performed in the early stages of their career.
The 2009 event, held May 7 to 9, will feature concerts from new acts including Blue Roses, Ashley Hicklin, Vula, Bruce Conlan, Bianca Rose and Dan Raza.
Shows take place from 12 noon to midnight, with many free to the public in familiar stores and locations in Chinatown, Carnaby Street and Regent Street, including Henri Lloyd, Lee Jeans, Austin Reed, H&M, Liberty, LK Bennett, Ted Baker and Timberland. The Borderline venue will also stage City Showcase concerts and full listings are available at the cityshowcase.co.uk Web site.
As well as staging concerts, the Apple Store will host mentoring and advice sessions from industry figures including managers Brian Message of Courtyard Management, CMO’s Chris Morrison and Peter Jenner, as well Kilimanjaro Live promoter Stuart Galbraith.
“We are more excited by this year’s event than ever before,” said organizer Nanette Rigg in a statement. “We believe that often in hard times the best music is written and this year we are more optimistic than ever about showcasing some amazing new talent and all with no charge to get in and enjoy.”
