Singer Lolita Flores is to release her first ever live album and DVD on June 1 after a 35-year career and a recent change of label from Warner Spain to Vale Music/Universal Music Spain..
Her sister, Rosario Flores, also moved to Universal-Vale two years ago after spending her entire career signed to Sony Music Spain.
The sisters are in turn daughters of the legendary singer Lola Flores, whose death aged 72 in 1995 was followed days later by that of her pop star son, Antonio. The events stunned the music business in Spain and much of Latin America, where Lola was widely adored.
“De Lolita A Lola” was recorded at a Madrid theater in March to celebrate Lolita’s 35 years on the stage (neither daughter uses her surname as a rule). Universal-Vale signed Lolita in mid-May for a three-album contract.
“The album is dedicated to the three most important pillars of my music,” says Lolita, referring to her mother Lola, her father Antonio Gonzalez ‘El Pescailla,’ and her brother Antonio.
The album includes appearances with Malu, Rosario, Jose Merce, Melendi, Pastora Soler and Charo Reina, plus the voice of Lola on “A Tu Vera,” and a studio recording with ex-Ketama singer Antonio Carmona.
Lolita was joined for the signing to her new label by Universal Spain director Fabrice Benoit, and Vale Music vice-president Narcis Rebollo. Releases in many Latin American countries are planned for later in the summer.
