After a while off the radar, Local Natives will be bringing it all back home in 2013.
The Los Angeles band, which found itself touring the world on the strength of 2009 debut album “Gorilla Manor,” will release “Hummingbird” on January 29 on Frenchkiss. The National’s Aaron Dessner co-produced the new album, bringing the group to his New York home studio.
“We knew we wanted to get out of L.A. and its distractions — but it was kind of dumb because New York has a lot of distractions, too,” the band’s Ryan Hahn told Pitchfork recently. “[Dessner] felt like an older brother in a lot of ways. We were really honest with each other.”
The group also unveiled lead track “Breakers” on YouTube on Thursday. The loud-quiet-loud song’s more blustery than past efforts, though fans won’t mistake the band’s signature harmonies and intricate percussion. “Gorilla Manor” spent two weeks on the Billboard 200, bowing at No. 160, but lasted nearly a year on the Heatseekers chart, peaking at No. 3.
