Lizzo showcased her sterling vocals while covering an uplifting Sam Cooke classic, “A Change Is Gonna Come,” for the One World: Together At Home concert on Saturday night (Apr. 18).
Although the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has become a star thanks to uptempo pop hits like “Truth Hurts” and “Good As Hell,” she offered a different type of motivation while taking on the 1964 Civil Rights Movement touchstone and translating its message to the coronavirus pandemic. “I love you. We got this. We’ll get through this together,” Lizzo stated after hitting the song’s high note amid a musical message of hope.
“A Change Is Gonna Come” proved a unifying symbol during One World: Together At Home, in which Lizzo was among a performance lineup that also included Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Kacey Musgraves. The two-hour telecast was preceded by a six-hour livestream of additional performances on Saturday.
