Fans will get a behind-the-scenes look at the early days of the Smashing Pumpkins reunion on the mammoth DVD “If All Goes Wrong,” due Nov. 11 via Coming Home Media.
A documentary of the same name chronicles the Pumpkins’ residencies in Asheville, N.C., and San Francisco in the summer of 2007, the Billy Corgan-led band’s first shows in seven years. Among the bonus features are an interview with the Who’s Pete Townshend and a segment on hardcore Pumpkins fans.
“We went into the residencies hopeful to play some new music, with the idea I would write during the day and we could maybe even play new songs that same night,” says Corgan. “What I didn’t anticipate is how much the process would inspire me, positively and negatively, to report what I was seeing and feeling from the shows.”
The second disc of the project is “The Fillmore Residency,” featuring seven songs previously unreleased in any form, like the 30-minute “Gossamer,” “99 Floors” and “No Surrender.” “Starla” is one of the only vintage Pumpkins song to make the cut for the track list.
As previously reported, the Pumpkins will release a new single, “G.L.O.W.,” via the “Guitar Hero: World Tour” videogame in late October. In November, the band is expected to play 20th anniversary shows at big venues in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and additional cities to be announced. Another run of dates focusing on the Pumpkins’ debut album, “Gish,” are on tap for early 2009.
