Little Big Town, the band that found success on an independent label after striking out on a major, has exited Equity Music Group to sign with Capitol Records Nashville.
The band signed with Nashville-based independent Equity in 2003 after releasing an unsuccessful debut on Sony’s Monument label. Its Equity debut, “The Road to Here,” has sold 1.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It spawned two top 10 hits, “Bring It on Home” and “Boondocks,” which reached No. 4 and No. 9 respectively, on Hot Country Songs.
Little Big Town, who own their master recordings, will take their second Equity release, “Place To Land,” with them to Capitol. Thus far the set has sold 149,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The first single from the album, “I’m With The Band,” peaked at No. 32 in November.
“We have admired Little Big Town, their unique blend of vocal harmonies, and their proclivity to write and record hit records for many years,” said Mike Dungan, president and CEO of Capitol Nashville. “They are poised to explode, and we are ecstatic about the possibilities, and humbled and honored to have been chosen to represent them and their music.”
“It’s always very difficult when relationships change,” Equity GM and interim president Derek Simon said in a statement. “The last two-and-a-half years are a testimony to what a band, their management and record label can achieve when they share total commitment, passion and artistic vision.”
Capitol Nashville is presently enjoying big hits from Lady Antebellum.
