Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard’s new series showcasing artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists, exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Evalyn. The Venice Beach-based pop newcomer first arrived last year via a striking feature on Louis The Child’s “Fire,” which has since netted over 30 million spins on Spotify. The rising upstart then made her solo debut with a viral hit of her own on “Filthy Rich,” followed by her politically-tinged debut EP Sandcastle last month, which she calls an allegory for the political state of the U.S. around the 2016 Presidential Election. (A song called “Trump” features on the set).
Today, the songstress is looking back, with this week’s throwback playlist as well as the exclusive premiere of a new video for EP cut “Ride Or Die,” shot in her beach-side oasis by director Joey Mora.
“For the playlist, I went with songs that had that feeling of long lost love, the nostalgia of remembering someone you used to be tight with,” she tells Billboard. “Plus a couple of songs here and there that are just about that whole ‘I’ve got you no matter what’ feeling.”
Give the set a spin and also check out some retro snaps of the artist below.
