Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard’s new series showcasing artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists, exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Swedish pop upstart LÉON. The fast rising artist — born Lotta Lindgren — first made waves with her 2015 viral debut single “Tired of Talking,” which featured on her debut EP Treasure. The track hit No. 1 on Hype Machine and has since captured over 50 million streams on Spotify, even earning an official remix from A-Trak & Cory Enemy.
This month, she is riding high on both the release of her sophomore EP Surround Me, which dropped last Friday Oct. 6 via Columbia Records, and the launch of her second-ever North American headlining tour, with upcoming stops at Lincoln Hall in Chicago (Oct. 21), Le Poisson Rouge in New York City (Oct. 27), and U Street Music Hall in Washington D.C. (Oct. 29).
Today, the pop songstress looks back with her curated #TBT Mixtape, featuring the bedroom sing-a-long gems that served as the soundtrack to her youth.
“When I made this playlist it was so hard to decide what songs to go with. There’s a lot of favorites that I didn’t put in, like Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette, Destiny’s Child and so on,” she tells Billboard. “But there are very specific memories that come back to me when I listen to this playlist. It’s full of nostalgia from when I was little, singing in my room pretending to be Cher or Jennifer Lopez – driving my family crazy all day long.”
