Rihanna and Calvin Harris have done it again. The dynamic duo teamed up during weekend 1 of Coachella and on Friday morning (April 29) they dropped their new dual single, “This Is What You Came For.”
Coachella 2016: Calvin Harris Brings Rihanna Onstage for Headline Set
The mid-tempo EDM track has a subtle, breezy house beat with Rihanna singing about a woman who knows how to get, and give, attention. “Baby, this is what you came for/ Lightning strikes every times she moves,” Rih Rih intones over the bubbling keyboards that open the track. “And everybody’s watching her/ But she’s looking at you, oh oh/ You, oh, oh, you, oh oh.”
Up the tempo (but just a bit) and that’s the track, a chilled-out, joyful club track that nods to classic Chicago house from the late 1980s and early 1990s, but with a modern, poppier flavor.
The song marks the duo’s first collaboration in five years, since their 10 million-selling “We Found Love” (written and produced by Harris) and “Where Have You Been” (co-written and co-produced by Harris), which reached No. 1 and No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively; the 10-week run at No. 1 for “We Found Love” is Rihanna’s longest streak at the top of the Hot 100. In 2013, “We Found Love” won a Grammy for best short form music video and “Where Have You Been” was nominated for best pop solo performance.
