Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard’s new series showcasing artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists, exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Dagny. The Norwegian pop upstart first emerged last year with a high-profile intro from tastemaker Zane Lowe, as well as a collaboration with BØRNS, and opening gigs for Elton John and Sting, followed by her debut Ultraviolet EP (Republic Records).
On the heels of being named a VEVO dscvr “Ones To Watch” artist as well as her previous 2017 standout “Wearing Nothing,” which has nearly 10 million streams on Spotify, the budding Norwegian pop upstart returned last month with her latest buoyant pop gem “Love You Like That,” the singer’s first proper love song. “It’s funny because I’ve always been weary of using the phrase ‘I love you’ in songs, in fear of sounding too cliché or corny, but then I just went and broke the “amounts-of-I love you-in-one-song” record,” she says. “And it feels good. I’m not a particularly romantic person nor am I great at telling people how I feel about them, so this was probably long over-due. If you love someone, you should tell them.”
In September, Dagny joined L.A. pop outfit LANY on a North American jaunt, which runs through Nov. 12.
Today, the fast rising star is looking back with this week’s #TBT Mixtape. “This playlist is a mix of what my 9 year old self grew up dancing around the living room to (Shania Twain, Spice Girls), and what my current self considers to be the biggest bangers from the ’90s (Semisonic, No Doubt, The Cardigans),” Dagny says. “Enjoy a trip down memory lane.”
