Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard‘s series that showcases artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Lauv. The 24-year-old rising pop prince (born Ari Leff) has had quite a breakthrough year, thanks to his dual role as both a solo performer and a producer/songwriter for the industry’s top stars: He co-wrote Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato’s smash hit “No Promises,” which peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year, and his solo bop “I Like Me Better” has made a slow-and-steady ascent that earned him 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Emerging Artists chart earlier this month.
Currently in the midst of a fall headlining tour, the rising star put together this week’s #TBT Mixtape, looking back at his early musical influences. The eclectic set features deep cuts from John Mayer, Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack and even Taylor Swift’s collaboration with Colbie Caillat (“Breathe”).
