Benjamin Keough would have celebrated his 28th birthday on Wednesday (Oct. 21), and his mother Lisa Marie Presley took to Instagram to honor her son gone too soon.
“My beautiful beautiful angel, I worshipped the ground you walked on, on this earth and now in Heaven. My heart and soul went with you,” she wrote in a poignant message alongside a photo of Keough at a past birthday party, wearing a birthday hat in front of a cake lit with candles. “The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day. I will never be the same.”
“Please wait for me my love, and hold my hand while I stay to continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I know you would want that,” she continued. “Happy Birthday my sweet sweet Boy. You were much too good for this world.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled on July 14 that Keough’s official cause of death was a shotgun wound and the manner of death was ruled suicide. Earlier this month, he was laid to rest in Meditation Garden at Graceland, Elvis Presley‘s former residence.
Presley’s rep told The Hollywood Reporter at the time, “She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter, Riley. She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”
