Modern rock outfit Linkin Park is wrapping up work on its Warner Bros. studio album with eyes on an early 2003 release and a subsequent tour. Producing again is Don Gilmore (Eve 6), who manned the console for the group’s 2000 seven-times-platinum breakthrough, “Hybrid Theory.” Since starting work on the record in the wake of this summer’s stop-gap remix disc “Reanimation,” the group has trimmed 15 songs down to 12, with vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda now finalizing their parts.
“We’re almost done recording vocals and it’s super swell,” writes Bennington, posting as Chazzy Chaz in the Studio Report area of the band’s official Web site. “Mike and I have been putting in a lot of hours in the studio and it’s paying off. Working with Don [is] a lot of fun. I’m glad we decided to do this record with him as well.”
“It’s amazing how much has changed in the last two years,” Bennington says of Linkin Park’s meteoric rise. “We owe it all to our fans, and we’ll show you how grateful we are by making this next record great.”
“We’ve had some days where the words just seem to flow out of us, and other days where we can’t write more than a few lines,” adds Shinoda of the as-yet-untitled album. “But I know we need to take our time to make things sound right.”
“I can’t wait until the album is done and can be heard by all of you,” continues bassist Darren “Phoenix” Farrell, who says he is looking forward to ensuing road work. “It will only be a few months until these ‘studio reports’ become ‘tour journals’ again. So be ready for us to be in your town again sometime soon.”
