After a freak accident yesterday (April 18) wiped out Puerto Rico’s power for a second time since Hurricane Maria, Lin Manuel Miranda took to Twitter today (April 19) to reassure his home turf that he still plans to return as Hamilton when the show comes to Puerto Rico in January — and to encourage donations to some humanitarian organizations assisting the American territory.
“So I’m not an electrician, and I wish to God today I were,” Lin Manuel tweeted out, “but here are some places you can help.” He then shared a link to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that feeds countries effected by natural disasters. “As you know, Chef Jose Andres and his team CONTINUES to feed Puerto Rico,” Lin Manuel tweeted, “and the incredible Erin Schrode is STILL on the ground there, after 8 months.”
He then quickly followed up with an equally as important tweet. “And for the record, if I have to play Hamilton with a fucking flashlight under my face in one hand and a dueling pistol in the other, belting like Ethel motherfucking Merman because there’s no power to the mics, that’s what i’m gonna do. See you in January no matter what.”
