Despite the fact that he’s currently behind bars, Lil Wayne is still keeping in touch with his fans. In a new public letter published on Weezythanxyou.com, the rap superstar shares his mindset about life on New York’s Rikers Island, where he’s been serving time since March.
“Counting the days and still smiling,” Wayne writes. “Most of those smiles come from hearing my kids’ voices over the phone. The others come from reading fan mail.” He also outlines his day-to-day activity in prison: “Wake up around 11AM. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That’s my day.”

In addition, the MC reveals that he’s penning new rhymes. “Let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair,” he says.
The Young Money head also congratulates label stars Drake and Nicki Minaj on their continued success and acknowledges members of his business team, including manager and Young Money CEO Cortez Bryant [“Tez”], and label president Mack Maine [“Mack”]. As always, the post ends with a lengthy list of replies to fans who have contacted Lil Wayne during his time in prison.
Wayne is serving a one-year prison sentence for attempted weapons possesion but could be released as early as November. He is expected to release new music even earlier — Bryant recently confirmed that an all-new EP, “I’m Not a Human Being” will drop on Lil Wayne’s birthday, Sept. 27.
