Lil Wayne visited Angie Martinez’s Hot 97 radio show in New York today (Mar. 29) for his first on-air interview since being released from jail, and talked about Nicki Minaj and Drake‘s albums — which he confessed he hasn’t listened to — Eric Benet‘s “Sometimes I Cry” still being his favorite song and MTV’s “Jersey Shore” being his guilty pleasure.
“Drake and Nik, don’t take that no kind of way. I’ve never seen Toya’s show either,” Wayne said as a disclaimer, adding that he also hadn’t seen his daughter’s mother’s reality show.
“I just started watching ‘Jersey Shore,'” he continued in his defense, before breaking down his favorite characters on the reality show. “The other day, Vinny had a ‘free Weezy’ shirt on. I rock with Vinny. I like Dina and Angelina and Jenny. Now, if I catch one of them, it’s on. I like Dina’s swag cause she’s loud. Jenny, she could get it. When she goes out and throws them dresses on, she could get it.”
“Jersey Shore’s” Sammi and Snooki didn’t get a mention from Wayne, but he did add why he likes some of the guys’ on the show. “I like Pauly D and Vinny’s swag. I ain’t really on Ronnie and Mike like that,” he said. “I like the fact they set a trend you are supposed to live by as a young male in this world. They go in the club and they really come back with something like every time. That’s my favorite show right now.”
Wayne also said that now that he’s clean off drugs and liquor (as per his probation), it’s a lot harder for him to create music. “When I was on that level, I would go with anything. My anythings were good, but now there’s a lot more thought put into it,” he said.
Midway through the interview, Martinez asked him what song he’d like the hip-hop radio station to play in his behalf, and the “6 Foot, 7 Foot” rapper requested none other than the R&B song “Sometimes I Cry” be Eric Benet, which he declared before as his favorite song while in jail.
Although the crew refused to play it at first, they abided by Weezy’s request at the end of the show. “Just listen to the words,” a happy Wayne recommended.
