Even while embroiled in a series of controversies, Lil Nas X is ready to give back to his fans.
On Monday (March 29), the “Montero” rapper tweeted about his line of “Satan Shoes,” telling his fans that if they wanted to receive a special pair, all they had to do was let him know on Twitter. “If u want the 666th pair of the satan shoes quote this tweet and use #satanshoes to be entered and I’ll pick someone by thursday,” he wrote.
The tweet came hours after Nike announced a lawsuit against MSCHF Product Studio — the company behind the controversial new kicks — for trademark infringement, claiming the company materially altered Nike’s popular Air Max 97 design without permission. “There is already evidence of significant confusion and dilution occurring in the marketplace, including calls to boycott Nike in response to the launch of MSCHF’s Satan Shoes based on the mistaken belief that Nike has authorized or approved this product,” the suit read.
The new lawsuit is just the latest in a string of controversies that Lil Nas X has found himself in, specifically surrounding the music video for his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” For the most part, the rapper took the backlash from conservatives and Christians in stride, tweeting out jokes and memes about the massive response to his music video, in which he pole dances into hell and gives the devil a lap dance. But in a tweet on Monday night, the rapper said that he was starting to feel the stress of public pressure.
“I’ll be honest all this backlash is putting an emotional toll on me,” he wrote. “I try to cover it with humor but it’s getting hard. my anxiety is higher than ever and stream call me by your name on all platforms now!”
