Lil Nas X is taking another ride down the “Old Town Road.”
The country rap smash hit just got a reboot, with a new remix featuring “yodeling kid” Mason Ramsey and Young Thug, alongside Nas and Billy Ray Cyrus.
In the new cut, Ramsey, who shot to fame last year when video of him singing “Lovesick Blues” at a Kentucky Walmart went viral, gets a verse all to himself. On it, he sings, “Hop up in my RZR, got a thousand acres/ Ride up on the cows with it, pray that it don’t faze her/ Aye-o, aye-o, yippee-o ki-yay/ If you ain’t got no giddy up then giddy out my way.”
Lil Nas X’s breakthrough song has been nothing short of a monster. The song broke early and wide on TikTok, then got another push with a new edit that featuring “Achy Breaky Heart” singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Behind the buzz is a story of good fortune. The largely-unknown Atlanta artist reportedly shelled out just $30 for the song’s trap beat from a website called BeatStar. The rest is chart history.
“Old Town Road” is on a tear, everywhere. In the United States, it has chalked up 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, and is chasing the all-time record of 16 weeks, held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito”.
The track also ruled the Official U.K. Singles Chart and it’s held top spot on Australia’s singles survey for eleven weeks.
