Faye Hunter, the founding bass player with ‘80s jangle-pop band Let’s Active, died Saturday night of an apparent suicide, according to various reports. She was 59.
A friend of Hunter’s told the News & Observer newspaper, “I’m not shocked, but I am surprised about the timing,” adding, “She’d been talking about this for quite some time. The past three or so years were really bad.”
Hunter played on the Winston-Salem band’s 1983 debut EP “Afoot” and on the follow-up full-length album Cypress from 1984, then left soon after. Hunter would return and contribute to Let’s Active’s third album, “Big Plans for Everybody” from 1986.
Mitch Easter, the band’s sole continuous member and songwriter, posted a message on Facebook on behalf of his recording studio Fidelitorium Recordings: “Today’s news has broken our hearts. Faye Hunter, you will be missed and loved forever.”
