The late Leonard Cohen was honored Monday night (Nov. 14) when contestant Ali Caldwell covered his song, “Did I Ever Love You?,” from the 2014 album Popular Problems.
Dressed in a red dress center stage, the New York singer owned her moment — which host Carson Daly compared to a Grammy Awards performance. Dropping a rose for a dramatic touch, she took the song through the quieter and soulful moments while cementing her place as a front runner in the competition.
Coach Miley Cyrus — who referred to the song as a “cosmic coincidence” — was up on her feet dancing, as was Alicia Keys. The entire performance ended in a standing ovation from all four coaches.
“That was a real moment,” said Keys. “This song choice couldn’t be better timing.”
“I’m proud of you every single time,” said Cyrus. “I told you this song was a little bit scary. I’m happy that Leonard was able to hear this.”
