Lemaitre released their wavy new single “Fast Lovers” on Feb. 1, and the Norwegian electronic duo (Ketil Jansen and Ulrik Denizou Lund) debuts the comedic video for the audacious track on Billboard today (Feb. 20).
The clip stars comedian TJ Miller, who plays is an erratic TV talk show host on a show titled After Dark with Timmy G. Lemaitre make an appearance as the night’s musical guest, whom Timmy G doesn’t seem to care about all that much: He asks the duo blunt questions like, “What’s wrong with you guys? Why haven’t people heard of you?,” then quickly cuts off the interview before they can really answer. As they perform, Timmy G goes into even crazier mode, destroying the set almost out of boredom.
Luckily for the Lemaitre guys, Miller doesn’t actually loathe the pair in real life. “We didn’t think [TJ] would say yes [to doing the video], because we thought he didn’t have time for it,” Lund tells Billboard. “But he was super down, and he came with ideas and was really great … He basically did improv the whole video. It was really fun because he’s really committed.”
The satirical video serves as a metaphor for the inspiration behind “Fast Lovers,” as Lund explains that the need for instant gratification in today’s world sparked the idea for the track.
“It’s about people’s sort of hang-up about being happy right now, and the idea that happiness is immediate,” he says of the song. “And the sort of feeling that whenever you’re slightly sad, you have to prop yourself up and give yourself an adrenaline shot of happiness. That feels like the sort of thing that we had in mind when we made ‘Fast Lovers’: That idea of having to quickly be happy, and confusing that with being actually happy which is more of a long-term thing — as the Dalai Lama said at some point,” he adds with a laugh.
“Fast Lovers” is the title track from Lemaitre’s forthcoming EP, will be released on March 1. Check out the silly “Fast Lovers” video below.
