If there’s one timeless topic across house music, it’s love. Call it trite, but it definitely doesn’t sound that way when it’s channeled through a Lee Foss record. Alongside the likes of Hot Natured and Pleasure State, the Chicago-native has championed a sentimental sound that bears more than enough authenticity to hold its weight in any club setting.
Foss got his start crafting deep house productions for Culprit and Wolf+Lamb Records in LA. Upon founding international imprint Hot Creations with Jamie Jones, the two ushered in a new wave of soulful, balearic-tinged house music. Further enlisting Ali Love and Luca C of Infinity Ink, the foursome created the formidable crossover group Hot Natured. More recently, Foss has linked up with long-standing producer MK and vocalist Anabel Englund to form Pleasure State.
As it happens, Lee Foss is also one of the headliners at Dirtybird Campout: Claude VonStroke and crew’s inaugural foray into the festival world. From October 2-4, Foss will join &ME, Breach, Lunice, Nosaj Thing, as well as Dirtybird regulars like Justin Martin, J. Phlip, and Justin Jay. Ahead of the event, Lee Foss has provided five songs to fall in love to at the serene setting of Oak Canyon Park.
Tortured Soul – Fall in Love
“A beautiful song about falling in love from a great underrated house band. Has an added meaning to me as the keyboardist from the band passed away this year. I used to love to see these guys live, they had a great energy and the drummer was also the lead vocalist so it was so cool so see him pumping away on the drums while he sang live with such soul and energy. Talk about chewing gum and walking at the same time x100000000.”
“Love can be tough but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t give you what you need if your heart is in it. This is a rough and tumble remix of the Mary J/Meth classic with an eerie synth pattern and hard hitting beats. You can feel it comes from the heart.”
Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On
“An all-time great love song about getting it on by the all-time great vocalist, the unparalleled Marvin Gaye. Categorically a favorite slow jam for all music lovers, it’s a great way to get a little closer to your crush.”
Rene & Angela – I’ll Be Good
“One of the funkiest songs of all time with a monster bassline, but also a great love song about what you bring to a relationship. Cool song to fall in with your new punk funk/g funk love interest at a disco/boogie camp out.”
Larse – So Long
“A cool deep house number from a couple years ago with a nice looped female lead vocal. I can definitely picture eyes meeting on a dance floor across the room to this or a first kiss under the stars.”
