“I know it’s hot! I’m hot, too!” Ledisi exclaimed to an engaged, albeit sweaty crowd at NYC’s venue SOBs, last night (June 22). Her own face glistening, Ledisi refused to let the heat ruin her set, which unfolded and carried itself like a church service.
Ledisi Scores Her First Top 10 Single
The four-time Grammy nominee opened the show with “Bravo,” a single of self-celebration from new album “Pieces of Me” (June 14). In a short striped dress, with a dash of red on her lips, Ledisi immediately grabbed the crowd’s attention with her amazing vocal range, riffs and high energy stage presence.
The band kicked into “Think of You,” her first single from her first major label release, “Lost and Found” (2007). “It may be your booty song, but I’m about to mess it up,” Ledisi said of the song known as an ode to a lover but performed as a love letter to God, last night.
The crowd received “Get Outta My Kitchen” from her first album, “Soulsinger” (2000) with applause and cheers. The majority of the tracks performed thereafter were from “Pieces of Me.” Ledisi sang “Shine,” “Hate Me” and “Simple” before playing the title track.
Ledisi closed the show with two tracks from “Lost and Found,” the sensual “In the Morning” and perseverance anthem “Alright.” She took time to offer the crowd three bits of advice: leap out on faith, love yourself and be careful who you allow into your life.
“I hope you enjoyed my sermon,” Ledisi said, using the perfect word to describe her show, which was met with resounding appreciation. “Thanks for your offering.” Amen.
