When inspiration goes both ways, beautiful things can happen. Two producers make a song, and another feels it so deeply, he reiterprets it into something altogether magical and even more majestic. So is the story with Laxcity’s remix of Ekali and Medasin‘s collaboration “Forever” featuring Elohim.
“Ekali and Medasin have always been massive inspirations along my musical journey,” Laxcity tells Billboard Dance. “It is such an amazing opportunity to have been able to remix this track for them. I only just recently discovered Elohim, yet I am already in love with her voice and the messages in her songs. When I created the remix, I wasn’t particularly thinking about anything, I just tried to make the vibe and atmosphere as ethereal as possible. Overall, I’m very happy with how it all turned out. I hope whoever listens captures the feelings and emotions of the track as intended.”
The original is light and bouncy. Elohim’s fairy-like vocals fall softly onto rain drop keyboard melodies. Laxcity takes the twinkling toy sounds and sprawls them into emotionally-fraught orchestral atmospheres. It’s soft, ambient and awe-ispiring, like fireflies floating in the dark night. It was originally created as a bootleg, but Ekali liked it so much, they turned it into an official remix release.
“When ‘Forever’ first came out, all I was really listening to on the electronic side was Laxcity music,” Ekali adds. “It seemed like he never missed when it came to beautiful, melodic music. He had asked me for the acapella, and of course I obliged. When he sent me a demo, I was blown away, and I think he absolutely smashed his interpretation of the tune.”
