Pop singer Lauv caught up with Billboard as part of the “You Should Know” video series to discuss his favorite album at the moment, his biggest musical inspiration and much more.
The musician, who was born in San Francisco, moved around quite a lot growing up. His first real job was working as a host at a Mexican restaurant in New York City. While his dream job has always been to be a musician, if he had to pick another profession, it would be owning a sushi restaurant.
Asked what the most sentimental item he owns is, Lauv reveals that it’s the necklace he wears “every single day,” explaining, “I bought it in New York City when I was going to school there — New York City inspired all my music that’s out, so this is a special necklace.”
The “I Like Me Better” singer also reveals his biggest musical inspiration: Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, adding that he is “definitely trying to work with him.” He also says that his current favorite album is Stranger in the Alps by Phoebe Bridgers.
