Lauv — co-writer and co-producer of The Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato’s current single “No Promises” — has released his new single “I Like Me Better.”
The new record is the first to come out since the L.A. native’s 2015 EP Lost in the Light featuring the track “The Other.” Listen to the song below:
Unlike the slow burn of “Other,” “I Like Me Better” is a little more uptempo, delivering on a chill beat drop, and is softly soul-baring as the hook confesses, “I like me better when I’m with you.”
“Being vulnerable is the hardest thing for so many people, including myself, but it’s also the most satisfying thing,” Lauv (real name Ari Leff) says about the new track. “In day-to-day life there’s so much that’s calculated: so many fake, surface-level interactions that don’t amount to anything. Getting away from that and being completely real in my music has been so cathartic for me, and my hope is that my songs can somehow empower people to be real with themselves and with other people too.”

The San Francisco native attended NYU to study music technology before signing to publishing company Prescription Songs. There he started writing for other artists, Paul Simon’s unique songwriting approach serving as his inspiration. Lauv is currently signed to Prescription Songs and Kobalt Music Recordings.
