Lauryn Hill‘s set at the 2014 Voodoo Festival in New Orleans was cut short on Saturday night (Nov. 1).
The singer was originally scheduled to take the Ritual stage at 6 p.m. local time, but a half hour later she had yet to arrive. At around 6:30, a festival representative announced that she would be on stage shortly. He added that she reportedly got lost on the way from the hotel.
Approximately 40 minutes after her scheduled set time, Hill took the stage for about thirty minutes. She didn’t say anything when she arrived, instead launching into the show. Her set included “Everything is Everything” and “Ready or Not” (from The Fugees cataloge).
“New Orleans. How you doing? What’s up? We going to have a little fun with you all,” she eventually told the crowd. As the set chugged along, she kept looking at her band and motioning at them, presumably to direct them on what song to play since the original one hour set was being shortened. She was also sweating and she kept wiping her face and under her eyes.
However, the show didn’t last long. Around 7:15 p.m., her mic was cut off, but still she kept performing. Then Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” came on and she still kept going. Eventually the lights dimmed and she threw her hands in the air and left the stage.
As of press time, a Livenation rep confirmed to Billboard that she will finish her set on the Flambeau stage at 10 p.m.
