-Mexican independent label Orfeon has secured worldwide digital distribution through IODA. Orfeon’s catalog includes Agustin Lara, Celia Cruz, Pedro Infante and many other heritage acts in such genres as cumbia, tejano, vallenato and salsa. The label is owned by Grupo Radio Formula.
-Sofia Ioannou has been named managing director of MTV Networks Latin America. Based in Miami, she replaces Pierluigi Gazzolo, who was recently appointed to chief operating officer of MTV Networks International. Ioannou was most recently executive VP of Business and Legal Affairs and General Counsel for MTV Networks International and MTV Networks Latin America. In her new role, she will oversee the business and creative development across all of MTVNLA’s brands in the region (MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite and Nick Jr.).
-The Latin Alternative Music Conference has announced its 10th anniversary lineup at Central Park SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn! at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Cypress Hill’s Eric Bobo will open for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs in Central Park on July 11; Juana Molina, Brazil’s Curumin and Argentine DJ group Zizek will play the park on July 8. -Latin rapper Flakiss has licensed her photo to textbook publisher Holt McDougal for the 2010 edition of its Spanish textbook “Avancemos!” The estimated first print run is 586,000 copies in the U.S. and Canada. Flakiss’ latest album, “24/7,” was released on indie Rize High Records in March with distribution from Select-O-Hits.
