-Vicente Fernandez debuts at No. 1 this week on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with his live set, “Primera Fila,” on Sony BMG. The ranchera legend’s first totally live album shifted 11,000 copies in the U.S.-his best debut week ever, according to Nielsen SoundScan. On the heels of a tour that grossed nearly $18 million in 2008, according to Billboard Boxscore, the accompanying DVD also enters at No. 1 on Billboard’s video chart.
-Universal Music Latin Entertainment plans to release the soundtrack to the hit Telemundo telenovela “Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso” in February. The release will coincide with the show’s end on Telemundo and with its re-broadcast on youth channel mun2. The tracklist has yet to be finalized.
-The Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA) has formed a task force to press for more accurate measurement of Hispanics online. The group of advertising agencies will consult with measurement companies such as Nielsen, comScore and Quantcast on research methodology, sampling and definition of Hispanics online. AHAA has been opposing the rollout of Arbitron’s PPM based on similar concerns.
“Online is a critical component of many Hispanic-targeted campaigns,” AHAA chairman José López-Varela said in a statement, “and our clients depend on our ability to deliver accurate measurement of the efficacy of those campaigns. We have a commitment to advertisers to deliver results and a return on their investment.”
