No matter who you are, it’s hard to make it in the music industry, but when you’re a kid in a poor town of the Dominican Republic, sitting in a cyber cafe, teaching yourself how to make dance music, it can seem impossible.
This was the mountain Lash’s Kelvin Beato has to climb, but he’s stronger for it, now working with acts from Selena Gomez to Charlie Puth and more. His tireless spirit and tropical sound caught the attention of Mike Caren and Miles Beards of Artist Publishing Group, and today, he’s working and releasing music from a new, hard-earned home in Los Angeles. Dreams do come true.
Lash was once a duo, but now, it’s the solo musical vehicle of Beato’s vision. He made his mark in the remix game, but today, he shares a wholly original tune called “I’m Gonna Be There.” A year-and-a-half in the making, it removes the crutch of other’s production flairs, catchy hooks, and vocals, and leaves fans with an intimate portrait of who Lash and Beato really are. It’s a bit tropical and pop-facing, somewhere between Kygo and The Chainsmokers. It’s a love song, but it could be a metaphor for his own persistence.
“The lyrics tell the story about a couple enduring life and it’s challenges, but no matter what speed bumps they hit, they’re always going to be there for each other,” Beato says in an emailed statement. “I wanted to build a song that was listenable for all fans of music, while staying true to the sound I’ve built. If you’ve listened to my remixes, you can hear the signature ‘Lash’ sound I’ve tried to create, but with influences of everything from pop to a bit of rhythmic dance from my home country of The Dominican Republic.”
From the cyber cafe to the stars of LA, this is Lash standing on his own two feet. “I’m Gonna Be There” out everywhere on Enhanced Music. Check out the official lyric video below.
