LANY released “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore,” the second single from their highly-anticipated sophomore album Malibu Nights, on Tuesday (Aug. 21).
The vulnerable, yet anthemic track is an open book of emotions, detailing the anguish felt after a lover unexpectedly leaves frontman and lead vocalist Paul Jason Klein. As Klein reminisces on the bittersweet memories of the relationship, his vocals are backed by a series piano chords intertwined with signature dream pop-influenced synths that became synonymous with LANY’s identity.
In an attempt to understand and overcome the heartbreak, Klein sifts through his thoughts with the pre-chorus, “Sick of staring up at the ceiling/How’d you change your mind just like that?/The only way to get past this feeling/Is to tell myself you’re not coming back,” which is sure to resonate with any one who has ever experienced heartache at the hands of a former significant other.
The single is the follow up to “Thru These Tears” in preparation for the upcoming album, set to release later this year. The trio will also embark on a world tour in support of Malibu Nights in 2019.
