Lana Del Rey is scheduled to play at the Meteor Festival in Israel on September 7, and despite many artists’ refusal to play in the country due to the political turmoil and inhumane acts on the Palestinian population, Del Rey is firm in her belief that the show must go on.
She took to Twitter on Sunday to defend her decision to play the festival in a lengthy note that reads, “What I can tell you is I believe music is universal and should be used to bring us together.”
“We don’t always agree with the politics of the places we play within or even in our own country,” she continued.

Roger Waters responded to the notion, urging her to reconsider and quoting Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu by writing, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
Del Rey continued her defense on Instagram, calling out Waters directly. “Also Roger Waters, I read your statement about taking action even when you believe in neutrality, I totally understand what you’re saying and this is my action.”
